Desrae Cameron

Desrae Cameron joined the Balmoral Masters Women cycling team in February 2009 after two years in Sydney where she achieved great success in Masters Track Cycling.

As a member of the Central Coast Cycling Club in NSW, Desrae won the 50 years and over women's sprint derby and scratch race, becoming a dual Australian champion after only three years of competition. The double victory followed the world championships when she won two silver and a bronze medal despite suffering several serious injuries after crashing in a criterium race.

'Central Coast Cycling Club's Desrae Cameron is now the 2008 World 500m Time Trial Champion (Womens Masters 55-59 category) winning the title at the World Master Track Championships at Dunc Gray Velodrome in Sydney. She says. "I wanted that one sooooo badly. I gave it everything. My legs were like jelly coming out of the last corner and I thought about Sarah Ulmer when she won the Gold at the Olympics and nearly collapsed at the end of her race. So I tried so hard to forget the pain and kept the legs going! It was so sweet putting on the rainbow jersey."

Desrae has trained hard and made such a huge commitment to her success. She is an inspiration to many and we wish her luck for the rest of the meet'.
